was building a budget computer to replace old P4 computer. mobo was used with 4gb corsair ddr3 1600 and amd x3 445. able to unlock x2 and x3s with turbo ucc. however, my processor was one of the bad ones (wouldn’t unlock). only time will tell if this mobo will last. the motherboard was actually the cheapest part in my build. bought from amazon for 59.99…now the price seems to have gone up to 89 bucks…motherboard didnt come with much…manual and 1 sata and 1 ide cable if i recall correctly. does not have hdmi. onboard gfx/sound/internet works good.

Replaced a broken BIOSTAR (regret giving them another shot) and this ASROCK was exactly what I wanted. It was cost effective, stable, and runs like a gem. My only complaint would be the need for two more RAM bays and the CPU gauge tends to want to run the fan a lot faster than I would like. That isn’t a big deal as you can change your heat tolerance and get the fan to run cooler, but it isn’t as self intuitive as some other boards I have seen.

You can’t go wrong with this product. You may miss some high-end functionality, but it is well designed and very good for what you pay. Good value play and good product.

October 31, 2011 > This is the latest update… Just built another, first was DOA, replacement came in four days (to Hawaii, so that’s quick)… again, when it’s working it is ROCK SOLID. Do not let the DOA’s discourage you from purchasing this board… look at the value versus price… for what it is, it’s a GREAT board… as long as you don’t mind waiting for the replacement IF you get a DOA.

August 28, 2011 > This is an edit or addition to the original review. This is now the fourth ASRock 880GM-LE I’ve received from Amazon… two out of four were defective. Once again, the replacement process of Amazon’s is silky smooth. The two ‘working’ motherboards are rock solid, BUT, I’m not sure if all the waiting for replacement boards is worth it. So if you decide to go with this motherboard, be prepared to get a defective one… my experience to date is 2 out of 4 have been defective. Hopefully the replacement board will work – that would make it 2 out of 5.
    DS

In the past year I’ve built thirteen computer systems. I’ve been building since 2004. I’m comfortable with my knowledge level in the areas of hardware, OS (all flavors of Windows), and software. When the ASRock 880GM-LE made it’s debut at about $60.00 U.S., I thought that if it were reliable it would be the best motherboard choice for people wanting to upgrade to DDR3 Memory and an AMD3 CPU, while still being able to take advantage of their SATA-II hard drives and IDE Optical Drives. A great budget board… IF… it proved itself to be reliable. The first build using the ASRock 880GM-LE, went smooth as silk. The board continues to perform flawlessly. That left me impressed enough with the board to make it one of my first choices when consulting with clients about their build. This is titled, “So Very Impressed”… it was the second build using the ASRock 880GM-LE that earns it the additional ‘so Very’ part. In a nutshell – RAM, CPU, Hard Drive, Optical Drive, all data cords, power supply… everyting worked – EXCEPT – the motherboard. I logged in to my Amazon account and the entire process of requesting a return authorization etc… was completely automated, and finished with a screen where I could print up a ‘PRE-PAID’ shipping label to return the item! btw, I live in Hawaii so ordering the parts to build computers from Amazon with ‘Free’ shipping is a deal sealer)… then, as if that wasn’t a VERY impressive bit of customer service (those of you who’ve ever wrestled with companies when you tried to return a defective item, know what I’m talking about) Amazon shipped me a replacement motherboard before I even had the chance to ship the defective one back. You can buy the ASRock 880GM-LE, at many places online, an ‘egg’ place even offers the same low price… but in my personal experience, I’ve NEVER run across better customer service when you needed it. the “So Very Impressed” title of this review refers both to the ASRock 880GM-LE motherboard, but especially to AMAZON.com for their excellent business practices.

    Sincerely,
    DAS

I was looking for a motherboard that could run a decent CPU power and 8G of RAM. Great for running a Linux or FreeBSD server (non graphical). I install a AMD Phenom II X2 560 Processor, Black Edition (HDZ560WFGMBOX) and was able to unlock 2 additional cores.

–CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 560 Processor, Black Edition (HDZ560WFGMBOX)
    –RAM: Corsair XMS3 8 GB (2 x 4GB) 1333 MHz PC3-10666 240-Pin DDR3 Memory Kit CMX8GX3M2A1333C9

Great motherboard for a price conscious computer hobbyist.

NOTE: Save some time, aggravation, and generating a RMA: Before buying a motherboard and CPU, check with the MB manufacture and make sure the CPU is certified to work with the motherboard. Some of the recommendations suggested by Amazon are incorrect. I almost make the mistake in buying a AMD Phenom II 125w 955 CPU for this motherboard (as recommended by Amazon), however, checking on the ASUS website, the board is only rated for 80W CPUs and

I have built several computers. Years ago when I first shopped for a motherboard I noticed that ASUS boards were always rated higher than a lot of others. They build a good product. This little board was for a pretty basic computer for my daughter’s family. It performs well with no hiccups. I use an older but similar ASUS board in my gamer with a quad processor and high performance memory and of course a high end graphics board with great success. I don’t think you can go wrong with Amazon and ASUS.
